Gard'nClean Chlorine Dioxide Products: A Complete Uses Guide

Rows of leafy greens growing in a modern hydroponic greenhouse; Gard'nClean chlorine dioxide products uses guide

Gard'nClean offers chlorine dioxide products in two forms for two different jobs: a liquid for surfaces and water systems, and gas generators for air quality and odor control. Knowing which does what makes it easy to choose the right one — and keeps each used for its intended, labeled purpose.

Gard'nClean Liquid — surfaces and water systems

Gard'nClean Liquid is an EPA-registered (Reg. No. 74986-5) chlorine dioxide product — a disinfectant, sanitizer, virucide, fungicide, algaecide, slimicide, and deodorizer per its label. Just add water to generate the solution on demand. Used according to its label, it's applied to:

  • Hard, non-porous surfaces and equipment — to disinfect and sanitize benches, tools, tanks, drains, walls, and floors.
  • Water systems — to treat, control, and inhibit slime, algae, and bacteria in cooling towers, reservoirs, process water, and irrigation lines (its algaecide/slimicide uses).
  • Food-contact applications — FDA-cleared direct food-contact antimicrobial uses (produce wash, poultry, red meat, seafood). See chlorine dioxide in food processing and is chlorine dioxide food grade?

It is less corrosive than chlorine bleach and leaves no residue — practical benefits for the infrastructure you maintain.

(All disinfectant/sanitizer/antimicrobial statements in this guide refer specifically to Gard'nClean Liquid and its registered label uses.)

Gard'nClean Fast Release & Extended Release — air quality and odor control

The gas generators do a different job: improving air quality and controlling odors.

  • Gard'nClean Fast Release — a water-activated chlorine dioxide gas generator for fast air-quality improvement and odor control in enclosed spaces.
  • Gard'nClean Extended Release — a humidity-activated generator that improves air quality and controls odor for up to 30 days, with no power and no PPE required.

These reach corners and dead spots that sprays can't, and they leave no residue. They are not EPA-registered and are not labeled as pesticides — they are for air quality and odor control only.

By environment

  • Controlled environment agriculture / cultivation — Gard'nClean Liquid for surface and water/irrigation uses; Fast/Extended Release for air quality and odor in grow, dry, cure, and trim rooms.
  • Food and beverage processing — Gard'nClean Liquid for surface, equipment, water, and food-contact uses; Fast/Extended Release for air quality and odor in processing and storage areas.
  • General facilities, warehouses, storage — Liquid for surfaces and water; gas generators for air quality and odor.
